Hi, I have a 2001 with a 4.6 Triton, and I want to make it a little bit louder. I don't have the money to put on an exhaust kit, so I was wondering if a muffler would do the trick for me, without gaining any extra looks. I don't want it to cause to much uncomfort inside the cab while just cruising around, but I want to be able to hear it when I put my foot down, and when I'm slowly accelerating. Would a Flowmaster muffler do this for me? If so what muffler would you guys suggest.
What is the diameter of your stock pipe? I believe it's 2 1/4(bigger the pipe, deeper the exhaust tone). Are you looking for a deep low tone or a loud hot rod noise? you have a lot of different options. Turbo Mufflers will give you a deep tone and glsspacks will give you a higher tone. I think flowmasters are overated. I have a gibson on my truck and I like it. You can spend about half as much money on a off brand turbo muffler and get just as good performance as a flowmaster.

Yeah, I am looking for a deeper tone. I'll check out Turbo Mufflers, but would just a muffler do it for me?
Take some time and look into Spintech mufflers. They flow! The Truck RV muffler is the largest muffler thats quiet. I go from a 2 1/2" to a X to 3" to 4 1/2" then 4 1/2" tips, had to install home made baffles to stop the drone. Self induced drone. With straight pipes they sound great without drone.
