Thumbs down BW T-5 on a 4.2? Will it bolt up and work?

I know that the Mazda is in my truck now. It is getting a real scratchy 3rd synchro.

I was wondering if the 5 speed in the old Mustang GT a BW T-5 would work with the 4.2.

GM used to use it for the Camaro, S-10, and 1500 so it should be able to handle the load. I was wondering if any of you have done this? It should also shift much nicer than this POS I have now.

In a word? Yes.

Will it take some special fabrication on your behalf? You bet your sweet chalupa!

I would guess that the bellhousing bolt pattern is different, but an adapter can be machined. I'm sure the electrical connections ( reverse lights etc..) could be made easily enough. The big thing will be driveshaft length. If yours is too long, it can be shortened, just be sure to have it balanced. If it's too short, you'll have to have one custom made. If you go through with it , let us know how it goes. Maybe more of us will dump the Mazda tranny.

Try posting in the Engine Swaps forum. I'll bet you'll get alot more advice and information in there and you possibly might come along someone that has done something close to this..
