I am looking for informed input relating to performance drawbacks using headers with a 1 7/8" primary tube diameter on my 400 truck engine. I know that 1 5/8" is better for torque and that 1 7/8" will flow better at higher RPM's, I'm wondering just how detrimental the bigger tubes would be.
53fatfndr, you are correct. Sanderson makes them for a 351C 4v head and sells the adapter for the 2v heads. I would really like to run them on my truck since it is a 4x4. I believe they would give my a much cleaner, neat installation since I have to contend with the front drive shaft and the transfer case taking up the left side of the frame opening between the transmission and the frame.
What year is your truck? I know Hooker makes a set for '77.5-'79 F-350, as this is the year of my 4X4. I believe they were only a few more bucks more than the Sanderson headers. Last I saw them, they were listed in the PAW catalog. If I were to put headers on my '79 F-350, I would go with the Hooker headers, if they are still available. I think Hedman makes a set as well. Check their websites, and they will have a part number and it will say if it will fit your application. Also, take that part number and run it through Summit's site, or Jegs..... whoever, and you can get a price on them. This is what I usually do when parts shopping. Good luck!
