I have a 88 f150 with a speed auto. its aftermarket and i have no idea if its a C-4 or C-6. the original tranny was a manual, because the clutch pedal is still sitting there. I figured its either a c4 or c6 since its a ford auto 3 speed. ive got a B&M shifter hooked up and i have a nother question. in most autos, if you put the shifter down in 2, it usually starts off in 1st, then shifts to 2nd, then stays there until you put it in drive, but mine starts off in 2nd when i put in 2. does this thing have a manual valve body or whatever its called. it shifts fine in drive, 1st to 2nd to 3rd, bost im sure most manual valve bodies you have to shift it thru the gears.
how do i find out which tranny it is? are there any numbers or a code on the tranny i could look for to find out?

yea being able to start off in 2nd is good in the snow. sometimes i start off in 2nd driving around town, keeps the rpms down pretty good. the shifter is a B&m "megashifter" looks pretty good. pretty nice puting her in drive with 2 chicks in the truck.
Yield2s, it does about 2400 rpms at 55, and about 2700 i think at around 65. and thats with 3:08 gears. not too good on the high way if you ask me. i avoid the highway. if i get 3:73's like i want, that thing will be screaming on the hiway. not too good on the highway in my opinion. a buddy of mine has a Z-71, and that thing has a sweeet overdrive. he does like 2000 rpms at around 70 mph!
