could be totally unrelated to your oil change. These E4OD's will shift hard if there is a problem in the selector position switch located on the drivers side of the case. Any dirt or corrosion in there will send mixed signals to the computer. Hope this helps.

when he removed the trans filter did he get the old O-ring from the hole where the filter fits up into? If not the new filter mat have dropped down and the trans is sucking air at times causing the harsh shifting. also if you installed a 4x2 filter instead of a 4x4 filter in a 4x4 could cause the same troubles.
moisture inside the connector of the MLP/TR sensor that Highboy70 is talking about can cause all kinds of trans concerns without setting codes. If there is moisture in it then you will need to replace the sensor and add dielectric grease in it to prevent it from happening again.
something else to concider, the 5.8/E4OD combination can be affected by fuel pressure which can change the shifting patterns. Have you changed your fuel filter recently? If not you may need to.
