I have a 1996 f250 with the 351 with overdrive. just recently my uncle changed the filter and fluid on the tranny. that was a lil over a week ago today i picked up a hard hit from 1st to 2nd gear and slighter hits the rest the way up. what could be the problem with this? Thanks for any help.

Welcome to FTE! Could be the fluid is not getting picked up enough (assuming you have rechecked the fluid level when hot). This could be caused by the filter not being seated properly, an O-ring out of place, pick up tube fell down, etc. Or.......
could be totally unrelated to your oil change. These E4OD's will shift hard if there is a problem in the selector position switch located on the drivers side of the case. Any dirt or corrosion in there will send mixed signals to the computer. Hope this helps.

Welcome FTE

when he removed the trans filter did he get the old O-ring from the hole where the filter fits up into? If not the new filter mat have dropped down and the trans is sucking air at times causing the harsh shifting. also if you installed a 4x2 filter instead of a 4x4 filter in a 4x4 could cause the same troubles.

moisture inside the connector of the MLP/TR sensor that Highboy70 is talking about can cause all kinds of trans concerns without setting codes. If there is moisture in it then you will need to replace the sensor and add dielectric grease in it to prevent it from happening again.

something else to concider, the 5.8/E4OD combination can be affected by fuel pressure which can change the shifting patterns. Have you changed your fuel filter recently? If not you may need to.
