there was an article about how to build a 300 inline 6 to have 600 hp, and a 7k rpm range. i know this seems unreal, and since it being a tractor engine, and knowing that is sint fast. how reliable would this be? is it worht it?
They are first & fore most Truck engines, not solely for tractors w/ a Lot much Guts than Any v-8 could ever think of having.
Father in his Hey Day built 300 I-6s w/ 500 Hp @ around that RPM range.
If you contact "Custom Classic Trucks", ask for the August 2001 issue & then find an article titled "the Joy of Six" on Pg. 70 by Jim Richardson, You'll have all the Intele you'll need to do Just that.

Anything is possible with enough money. The real question is would it be practical and the answer is no. Of most of what we do for the sake of power isn't very practical.
That's just your Opion & untill you actually do the work or have it done that's All it will remain, An Opinion & an Opinion is Based on 2nd Hand Intele.
I've done it & it didn't really cost Anymore than doing an 8.

if the 300 was really a 400, it would be a lot easier.
We're not working with too much displacement here. Granted, what we have is horribly underfed, but i would argue that for the displacement that is fully utilized, ford did a pretty good job.
Unlocking 200ft-lbs would require a much better VE, which i'm sure can be vastly improved based on the stock specs, and making those cubes more powerful.

So you've built a 600 hp 300 I-6 that was cheaper than a V8 with similar power output? I'd like to see that.

how wel did all of that hold up? is it pretty reliable?
if a person has enough money, they can do anything they want....some people don't find spending several grand on an engine (v-8 or otherwise), worth the while...or money....for what they end up with....many people i've talked to tend to pick at me when i mention that i'm building a 300-6 with a 4bbl and some other mods, and figuring on spending a couple grand on it, between machine work and parts....myself, i feel that for me, it is a worthwhile waste of money, and i don't let other people's opinions stand in the way of what i want...i've decided that this is what i'm going to do, and the only thing holding me back right now, is, in fact, the cash to do it. once i have the money for the various sections of work to be done, i'll start buying the parts to put the engine back together....
My previous posts & my signiture have all the answers you desire.
I've read your previous posts and your sig and there is nothing there about a 600 hp 300. I've read plenty about your 300 hp 400 ft-lb 300, but nothing in sight about a 600 hp version. Did you buy two of the 300 hp models? You've got yourself a nice engine, but this thread is about a 300 with 600 hp, not one with 300 hp.
As I said before, anything is possible if you throw enough money at it, but a 600 hp 300 would be completely impractical. We are all fans of the 300. If we weren't we wouldn't be here. It would take a serious hardcore 300 fan to throw out the greenbacks necesasary to built a 600 hp 300. If a person was a careful shopper and did the work themselves they could build almost any mainstream V8 to make 600 hp with the $4200 you invested in a 300 hp 300. It would probably take three times the investment to do the same with a 300.
Why are you arguing this point with me? MontanaFord said almost the exact same thing I did and you seem to be in agreement with him. There is no practical application for a high performance engine of any kind, but we build them anyway because we enjoy them.
