C'mon guys I need suggestions....my 97 F-150 blows the ignition fuse every time I try to crank it. I thought it was the starter and replaced it but needless to say I have a new starter and am still blowing fuses. any suggestions on what to look at next would be great.
Without starting, just turn the switch to run position, does the fuse pop? How about if you turn it back to the acc position? Are all the items in the truck turned off, like the radio, heater a/c fan, the a/c selector to off? cigar lighter removed, cell phone power cord removed?
If you have a high impedence volt/ohmmeter you can put that inplace of the fuse if you are trouble shooting. Then see how many amps your pulling through the fuse box.

Actually, an ammeter is a low-resistance device.....
I had the same problem with my 98. Turned out to be a wire bundle that runs down the passenger side, from starter relay on firewall to the trans sensor. The bundle touched the exhaust and burned through. You have to follow the wires with your hand and see if you can feel where it touches the exhaust. The wire that caused the problem for me was the Trans position sensor. That wire is part of the starting circuit. Evertime I tried to start my truck, one of the fuses inside would blow(starter relay fuse). I replaced the relay and th starter before I found the wire bundle burned through.
Tony...your a genious....I checked and thats exactly what it was...I have been hearing a rattle under the truck since the last time I took it to the mechanic and I could never find it. when I started at the top of the wire bundle and worked my way under it I found a bracket that was supposed to be holding the wires hadn't been put back on and was left dangeling. The whole bundle was laying against the exaust and was grounding out. I pulled it off....put in another fuse and it started right up. Now at least I can get it up on ramps to fix all this. Thanks so much for your help.
