I have only own this bronco a few months, so I am still learning how she is acting. I am convinced that when it is raining and wet out side my bronco runs like it has no power. Like a sensor is telling the computer to take away the fuel. What sensor or sensors could cause this effect? When it is dry and sunny, she is peppy and powerful.
I can't say what a 351 will do, nor can I say that I know what I'm talking about other then going by the symptoms described....the Ignition Control Module. Lately I've been a little ICM advice-happy, but based on the symptoms, that's my guess. Besides, that part seems to go bad a lot in all of the Broncos.
I promise it worked...I walked into a parts store and said the same thing, and the guy behind the counter looked at me like I had 3 heads, but then another guy popped out from behind a display and pulled the part for me. Said he had one too, and it did the same thing and had heard of it a lot before. Last person to pick one up said it was around $65...it's a piece on the distributor (at least it is on the '88 302s) Stick around, I'm sure someone else will pop in and be able to give more advice. There's defiitely a lot of other sensor issues on this forum too....TPS, ICM, O2, etc., with syptoms and fixes listed.
my wires used to get wet, i'd spray them w/ wd/40 and wait alittle bit then she would fire right up, ended up buying a good set of plug wires and never happened again, also next time it gets wet look inside the distrib. cap and see if there is any moisture in there. Good luck...
i used to have the same problem, it occured after one of the hurricanes. it would rev real high on its own and then just kick off. it turned out that it needed a electrical thing that you plug into the electric stuff next to the air filter (sorry not technical) i can find out what that thing is called if you want and it only costs about 15 bucks at the ford dealer
WD-40 on sparkwires is a quick and ez test.
Could be a cracked dist. cap.
Had a 85 Bronco that would mess up when it was raining, one night it was raining hard the truck was missing bad,I pulled into a gas station, poped the hood......you should have seen the light show !
Sparks being pulled off the wires flying everywere.
Got some WD sprayed it around got me home.
Repalced wires, put on new cap it fixed the problem.
I carried a can of that stuff in my truck for over a year after that.
Hey MinnMan, I still keep a can of WD/40 in my truck, I've helped several people out in a rain storm with that trick, it's really cool when it works, they think you are some kind of auto-god.
I have had it twice where my engine would run horribly in wet weather, both cases was a cracked distributor cap (had droplets of water in the distributor) also know wires can cause the same.
