I have an 86 F150 with an I6, I cannot stop the exhaust leak that makes the terrible popping noise where the manifold connects to the exhaust pipe. I guess the manifold has the factory doughnut and you connect the two peices metal to metal.
The popping is driving me NUTS and any suggestions would be appreciated. NOTE: I really would rather not remove the manifold.
If it uses a doughnut gasket replace the gasket. You might end up pulling the manifold after you brake the two studs that connect the pipe to the maifold. Just dive in get your hands dirty and do what it takes to fix it. My prayers are with you that you don't brake the manifold to pipe studs .
The doughnut gasket is from the factory. The pipes connect metal
to metal. I am going to get new studs first and try that. I sprayed the old ones down with PB Blaster and will go light with the impact wrench. I hope They come out. I can take off the manifold easy enough but I PRAY I won't have to.
