timing chain or gears?

Again with the 400, what's better a double roller set or an all gear set. I would like to know the pros and cons of both. The only thing I know right now is that the chain set I have is a huge pain to get on. I originally had a double roller that went on fairly smooth when the engine was out of the truck but now it's buried and it's not working so smooth. This engine has been rebuilt with performance cam, intake, carb, exhaust, heads and runs hot and powerful. Please share your wisdom.

The only reason for a gear set would be you like the noise. I put a Pete Jackson in a 400 & it's a pain, especially cutting down & clearancing the counter axle ( It will just barely work in a 400, all kits are for a 351c ). You would need a one piece eccentric ( C.J. Pony parts has them ) or make a special shim to run the 2 piece, a hardened stud for the cam & a longer cam pin. & lastly Pete Jackson has no 800 # if you would need to talk to them, which I did 2 times.
If you use a double roller put the keyway on the zero, if you are not going to degree it in. If your having trouble getting it on try polishing the end of the crank a little there may be some small burrs on it. Put the gears on evenly if one gear is on farther on than the other it will bind the chain, making it seem tight.
