I plan on doing some exhaust work on my 302. I want True Duals. At home, I have a lot of pipe that I can use. I want some single-chambered flowmasters as well.
If I run true-dual straight pipes, can it hurt the engine. The piping size is 2¼. I plan on adding the flowmasters later. I know it will be LOUD, but does anyone have experience? Thanks
My 302 has straight pipe after the cats and it sounds awesome, it sounds like and overly agressive flowmaster sound that is very deep i love it i plan on keeping it just the way it is
I had straight pipe after the cats as well. I cut one cat off and it got louder. But, I wonder if cutting the other cat off and running dual straight pipes hurt it.
well if the pip is to short, or has no restriction at all, the exhaust valves could cool to rapidly and cause them to crack, but alot of people have run straight pipes with out damage, its just the posiblity. i have cut everything off but the first cat, and i plan on gutting that this weekend, and runing out the side with a glasspack. i think you should be fine as long as your not just running headers and no pipe.
well i know that cats reduce flow alot, and they absorb lots sound, and they make lotsa heat. when i gut mine im just gonna leave it hollow, kinda like a resonator
93GreenF150, I just wanted to ask you how big was the pipe the now departed-cat connected to? Was it the same as the tailpipe (mines 2 1/4) or was it 3in? It looks perty big to me but I figured you'd know!!
Well, right now the glasspack just isn't cutting (soundwise) it. lol. I'm torching it off. Besides, I'm not really fond of that 'backrap' it does.
Hmmm...I'm still kinda thinking of true-dual straight pipe. Only thing getting in my way is that darn air injection tube down there. We'll see what happens
Well, spring break is here, but I have to work . BUT, that also means i'm home which I can get started on my straight pipe project . What I'm gonna do is, cut that first cat off. It's a Dual In so, that makes the job easier. I'm gonna run the pipes from there.
What's gonna get me is how to run the pipes over the frame rail. I need to get me some pre-bent pipe. After that, it's easy. I'm only gonna run the pipes to about where the middle U-joint is. After that, I'm gonna put some flowmasters. Then exit both pipes before the passenger rear tire. Alright.
