Will it compete?

I have a 1985 Ford T-Bird, and I am getting ready to swap in a 351w 4V HO engine, 265hp and 305ftlb torque. The engine has less than 40k on it and the car is in pretty good shape. I was just wondering with the 351w swap and all if lock the rearend, do u think it would compete with a 1994 Ford Stang w/ a 302?

Yes, it will take far more time, effort and money to make run right than the Mustang. You have about 6 posts going on this thing. Get to work on the car and update when it runs. (just a suggestion, feel free to post as you like...)

When I took thye oil pan off to change it, the inside of the engine was extremely clean, also the filter thing at the end of the pickup tube had been cut out larger to allow for more oil flow, why do u suppose they did that?

Leaving the filter off the oil pu tube would be an error either in thinking or in forgetting the part. Maybe they had the wrong PU tube and had to shorten it that way. In any case, the proper tube and screen should be used when it's put back together.

The filter was on it, but on the bottom of the filter, where there is a whole cut out for oil to go into from the factory, someone enlarged it to allow for more oil to go into the filter.

85e150six4mtod is talking about the screen on the bottom of the pickup. If the hole was enlarged and is not covered by a screen, crud can be sucked into the pump and jam it.

The screen on the bottom of the pickup was enlarged, but the screen is still on it and is covered by the screen

Honestly, if you just put the engine in, I doubt it. The thunderbird probly weighs more than the Mustang. Now I'm guessing here, but you probly have a automatic and tall rear end, two factors goin against you. The Mustang will have a 5 spd plus decent gears in the back, probly 3.55 or 3.73. With the locker you'd definately lose in the twisties. One last thing, I think your numbers are off a little. Good luck though.
