Which 460 mount kit is better?

Of the two mount kits offered to install a 460 in a 53 f100 which would you recommend? The crossmember style or the side mount style? The engine I am using is out of a 78 Lincoln and I've seen where both styles say to not use with Lincoln or Mercury motors. I am assuming this is an oil pan issue which is no big deal to overcome.
I did a search on this first but I really didn't find the answer. Thanks in advance.

it kinda of depends on what else you are doing to truck.
If you are sticking with the stock I beam front end, the crossmember style would probably be the easiest to install (it basically bolts to the frame) and also an added benefit is that it will stiifen the front end. Drawback being that if you ever want to put in a larger capacity pan, the pan probably won't fit.

if you are going with an independent front end (MII or equal) I would use the side mount. (wish i had with my truck, 60 ford with MII crossmember kit). it will give you the most clearance and flexibility as to placement. I takes a little more patience to install properly and you would probably have to box the frame.

the main reason they say not to use Lincoln or Mercury is that they use different motor mounts than Ford. the pans are the same. You can use a Lincoln or Mercury engine as long as you use the correct Ford motor mounts ( which I think are from a mid 70's Torino or LTD, can't remember exactly)

Thanks Mike, I never knew that mercury and lincoln used different motor mounts. I assumed a ford motor used ford mounts. Thanks for the heads up.

I used the tube style mount and am happy with that as it added a little more support to the frame. The one draw back is that there would be no way to partially drop the pan without pulling the motor. It was an easy install, and I was a novice when I started playing with this truck.

I used the motor out of a 77 LTD, so did not have to worry about finding motor mounts etc. Good luck on the swap.
