rear end flip problem

recently i flipped the rear end so the axle is on top of the rear leafs. To lower it a little. Well it actually lowered it about 4- 5 inches. the problem i am having is when i go down the road there is a nasty vibration. i was thinking that the driveshaft and the rear end werent lined up straight. it also sounds like the U- joint is bad but it was good before. therefore leading me to think the rear end isnt straight with the driveshaft. so i was just wondering if that was the problem. if not then what is it.

Any help would be great.

thanks
Will

Hmmmm...I'm glad you posted that. I was thinking of doing the same with my '78 F150 to drop it just an inch or two. But it sounds like it's gonna drop too far for my application. I'm gonna try making my own lowering shackles. As for the noise problem?.......I wonder if your pinion angle is now out of whack? When you put the axle on top of the springs what did you do with the welded on spring bracket on the axles? Did you move it from on top of the axle tube and weld them to the bottom of the axle tube? If the angle of the rearend was not adjusted to account for that drastic drop you might be putting excessive strain on the ujoints with their new mounting angle?

I think you will have to adjust your pinion angle.

I was also wondering if you could post a pic of before and after showing the gap between the tire and the top center fender opening?

An axle flip is going to drop the truck the thickness of the axle and spring perch
4-6 inches depending on which rear you have
you can use an add a leaf to raise it back up a couple of inches to achieve a 2-3 inch drop
they make shims to adjust pinion angle to fix that vibration
the driveshaft can get too long real fast when doing an axle flip
look at the slip yoke to see if it still has room to slip that could be your vibe

it was the pinion angle. i fixed it last night. the axle is resting on the frame bumpers it lowered it so much! it lowered it at least 4 inches. i need to lower the front end now to make it level again. i will try to post some pics of it.

thanks for the replies.
