460 accessory help needed

Ive decided to put power steering on my truck, along with the original alternator bracket, but i cant find a diagram on how everything should look once on the motor. I have all the parts, they were in the bed when i bought the truck but i wanna see a drawing or something on how this should all mount so nothing will get messed up. Thanks.

year and application would help. I would assume you are talking about a '79 4x4? if the motor came from a 2wd truck, your power steering pump might hit your steering gear. If it came from a passenger car (it will be a saginaw pump, looks just like GM) then it wont hit. best place for ideas is to look at motors in the wrecking yard, or do the 'ol try by trial and error.

Dang your going to be in for a big surprise! I am assuming by your screen name that you have a 4X4 with a 460 swapped into it right? If thats the case then stock 70's brackets will not physically fit your truck anyway. Going to be fun to say the least. Hawkrod

Actually, i dont know what year these brackets came off of, or what for that matter, but they bolted right up. Everything is aligned just right. Its a low mount and clears the framerail by about 2 inches so. No worries here.

Nope, can't be a passenger car motor. The brackets for a passenger car conflict with everything in a 4X4. I think it is likely a later Van or Truck engine as those will fit in the right combination. Car brackets cause the alternator to hit the frame and the power steering pulley to hit the steering box (except the cars with GM steering pumps). Been there tried all of that! LOL Hawkrod

That must've been what one of the previous owners did on mine. The front crossmember has been notched in the right corner where the alternator sits. I don't prefer the look but haven't looked for other brackets to move it.

Some people are blessed with the ability to remember certain things.

Others are blessed with being able to do certain things.

The biggest challenge is for a person to be able to do both

Dwayne, you made me laugh. I totally feel your pain, hell, I'm living it...
Regarding the 460 swap, it's got to be the most discussed issue with our old Ford 4x's, getting that big block in where Ford never put one. Lets face it, if there were magic bullet part #'s, Car, van or truck big block brackets, for the A/C, Alt, and PS, those part #'s would be all over this sight, and L & L would not have gone into business. But they did and for good reason, it is a challenge to get the alternator off the right frame rail and the power steering pump off of the steering gear, and the AC mounted with belts lined up with the crank pulleys and still be able to run the other stuff, with properly lined up and tensioned belts..., well you all know this. So we modify, and search the wrecking yards, and are always looking under everyones hoods to see how they did it. Call L & L, it's not quite as fun as fabricating perhaps, but that stuff fits, first time. I found that out on my third 460 transplant. (besides no memory, I am a slow learner) Good luck with it all, -Dale
