Hi,
I have a 85 Bronco with automatic hubs. When i engage the 4wd the front driveshaft is working but i dont have 4wd. Any suggestions to what is wrong here? Is it something with my hubs. If so is there an easy way to swap hubs with some manual ones i have on an other 85 bronco I own? Thanks in advance for any ideas.
Definately the hubs. Ford redesigned the auto hubs about 3 years ago because they had so many problems since they originally developed them. I replaced both mine from ford at a cost of $148 each side. It is a 20 min job with the right tools. I just like having to push a button on the dash, and its engaged. Spent too many years pulling over and engageing/ dis engageing. If you are doing any off roading, I would go with the beefier manual hubs. I only put mine in 4wd for snow.
If the other '85 is a donor vehicle it should take about an hour all total to swap to the manual hubs. I like my auto hubs and take them down twice a year for cleaning/maintenance. Look on ebay if you want to buy the Warns, there are some really good deals.
