I'm trying to replace the steering center link on a 1969 F100. I've got both ends detached but can't get the center connection off. I've used the pound the link with a hammer procedure and it doesn't want to bug off the bolt. I can't see how it would be threaded on and the two ends came out after I took the nuts off but this center one doesn't want to. Do I keep pounding or any other ideas?
Buy or borrow a tie rod seperator. (pickle fork) Its kinda like a two pronged fork wedge with a handle made to be smacked on with a realy big hammer.
The method of removing the nut and beating on the protruding stud might work if the center link were still attatched at both ends. Thread the nut back on a few threads to gain a larger area to smack and support the center link somehow from the other side to increase the shock of the blow.
I just replaced mine and used the pickle fork method. I am surprised that you got the other ends loose. As long as these trucks have been together they don't come apart easy. A pickle fork is pretty cheap.
