Question on dizzy advance
All this on a '428' rebuilt motor with 6-7K miles on it. The carb is a 4bbl Carter-AFB.
How much can I safely run the advance? I started @ 10 and it bogged big time when the secondaries opened and sneezed through the carb. I went up to 14-15 and a lot of the bog is gone, but not all. Still no pinging.
Can I go higher yet? There was NO bog at all before, but I never checked the timing before pulling the old unit, grumble grumble. I bet if I went 18-20, the bog would be gone, but IS it safe to run that much?
The old dizzy did not have a vacume advance, but the new one does. It's plugged to the ported hookup and all advance seems to come on early according to the light.
As long it doesn't ping, I should be alright, do ya think?
Thanks,
Keith
On the weekend I thought I would keep advancing it until I heard pinging. Well I had it all the way up to 30º and I still didn't hear anything. Amazing you much performance you pick up. I backed it back down to about 12º.
