I have an '03 Excursion with the 6.0 diesel. I've been plowing and running strobes and different aux. lighting when plowing. I would like to run a larger alternator or possibly upgrade to the dual alternator setup like you can on an F250 or F350. Everyone I've talked to so far says to do the dual alternator setup you need to reprogram the ECU and so forth. Has anyone done this or upgraded to a larger single alternator? Any help would be great!
Is it difficult to replace the alternator in an '03 6.0 Excursion? My Dad's truck died in my driveway Friday night. The DVD started to have issues then the lights started to dim and when I shut it off and tried to restart it made a clicking noise and wouldn't start. I can't afford to take it to the dealership right now but a friend who works on cars said that he could probably do it. My Dad could do it but is fighting cancer and doesn't have the strength. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
