How Do These Heated Mirrors Work?

Today in the snow, I was wondering how these mirrors work. I know the owner's manual says that the mirrors (towing mirrors) are automatic. It also says that they will come on by themselves and that they will get warm...but will not burn. Mine do not seem to be warm after my admittedly short ride home. (Less than 10 minutes.)

I know that it some cars you need to turn on the defroster to get the mirrors to heat.

Does anyone have the info on this? Before I go to the dealer, I'd really like to know that I am not doing something wrong.

I don't have the TT mirrors but apparently they are on as soon as the ignition is on. Rain or shine, hot or cold.

In the Excursion, turning on the rear window defroster turns on the side mirrors at the same time. Just push the defroster on the dash and watch the water droplets disappear after a car wash, or snow in the winter.

Hope this helps,

Jeff

The mirrors get warm, but not really to the touch.

They take about 3 - 5 minutes to warm up (or so) and shut off when the defroster shuts off (after 10 - 15 minutes). Just turn it back on to recycle.

One can not burn their hands on the mirrors and it warms up just like your back window (have you ever felt it)?

Obviously, the colder it is outside, the more noticable it is.

Good luck,

Jeff

I have an o4 and the heated mirrors HAVE NEVER workED. I have tested them with a temperature guage, AND THEY ARE JUST BROKEN.. They are supposed to go on automatically, RAIN OR SHINE, SNOW OR NOT. IAM TAKING IT TO A DEALER TOMORROW TO BE FIXED. PS THE REAR DEFROST BUTTON HAS NOTHING TO DO WITHT HTE SIDE MIRRORS TURNING ON OR OFF.

Sorry to contradict you but it does in mine.......as well as most others here! That's simply how you get them on. At least on the year that I own.

I guess my 2005 X is broken just like the rest. I wish you would have posted this insight earlier in the week as I had the X at the dealer for maintenance and I could save myself a trip to go over there and have them rewire the heated mirrors to work YOUR WAY.

Thanks for all the sarcasm!

i was just going by what my manuel states. The dealer told me they were heating up too much and cracking, so they changed it so they worked by the rear defrost button, but did not update the manuel. Thanks for all the sarcasm!
