Ok, where to begin. Short story: 2/16/05 I had a 16 y.o. uninsured, no license, no permit, no registration idiot blow through a stop sign in front of me and my '93 Ranger. My insurance company is totalling my truck. Which brings me to now...
I've been looking locally (Las Cruces, NM) for older 4x4 rangers and 4x4 150s ('97 to maybe about '02, '03 is what I might afford). I'm also hell bent on finding my replacement in manual trans (my '93 was 5 spd), something that is proving quite difficult. I have, however, located a 2001 F-150 quad cab 4x4 V8 (forgot to ask L) auto with 4x4 on the floor (something else I've been having trouble finding, been trying to avoid electronic 4x4). The place is wanting 12,995 for it. So where I'm basically going with this is is there anything I need to be aware of about that year, or for that matter any of the potential years I listed above? Whether for the Rangers or the 150s?
Any help, suggestions, recommendations, etc would be awesome.
Sounds like a terrible lot of money for a '97 model. I just bought an '00 4X4, 5 speed manual, 4.6 with 59,000 miles for $11,000. It was difficult to find a stick and V8, had to drive 300 miles but it is a nice truck.
I worded that wrong...well worded it right, but not clear...I should have typed it
I've been looking locally (Las Cruces, NM) for older 4x4 rangers and 4x4 150s. I can probably affoed from '97 to '02, possibly '03.
I'm having difficulty even finding Rangers in stick and with 4x4 here. It just doesn't feel right or normal to drive an automatic. All ya do is put the little needle on D and then stomp on the gas. I'm just flustered typing this right now. I've driven all over town and nothing.
There's a big post some time ago about Auto vs Manual. Apparently Ford is shifting to Auto on higher end models in last couple years. My 98 has Auto because it is standard on 5.4L Lariat. BTW, I'm selling my beloved F150 Lariat, check out the classified here on website. The truck is located in northern NM.
The Auto tranny's in the F150's are much stronger than that weak lil Mazda 5-speed. I would sat away from a manual tranny F150 if you really want to tow or haul much weight. Oh, and the floor shifted 4x4 isn't much different than the **** type, just 1 less servo motor.
