Front Axle Information
Hi, I am seeking information on the inderpendent front axle of the Expedition/Navigator. Firstly is this axle the same as used in the F150 series? I assume this axle would be heavier duty than that used in the Explorer. Is this correct? Is the Expedition axle/differential a Dana differential or is it Fords own manufacture? Are you able to fit a 9.75" ring gear in this diff or will it only accept 8.8 " gear sets. ie the lowest ratio available would be 3.73? Can anyone tell me of a good website where I can view a picture of one these axles complete? All the Best . Trevor

For the '97-'02 model years, the front axle of the Expy should be the same as an F150. It's a Ford axle with an 8.8" reverse rotation ring & pinion. Last I checked, there were ratios as low as 4.56:1 for the 8.8" diff.
