help with a report

hey
I was assigned to write a 5-6 page report on the history of something. Since the topic was my choice I thought that this was a good time to show off the blue oval. However the teacher said that i could only use one internet source, as many books as i wanted, but all the books out there just say the same well known things. So i asked him if i could use FTE as a source and he said that it was fine. So if you all could give me some of fords inventions, new ideas and / or processes.

My thesis statment is::

For more than 90 years Ford motor company has been hailed as the most innovative and forward thinking auto manufacturer in the world by most of the general public.

if you do reply could you please include your name so i can include you in the bibliography.

Any info would be great, thanks

Ok,here are a few facts for you,but dont ask me to post links,Im terrible at that and would probably link you to a GM site!
Alot of people dont know it,but when Henry Ford first bought the land that the Rouge plant sits on,he had no intentions of putting a factory there. He was into preserving wildlife, and had intended to make it a bird sanctuary,(Wish he had,P.U.does it smell!)
Another of his cool ideas was,he built alot of smaller factories going up the Rouge river, some did upholstery, some made the wheels, and this helped to form alot of the little cities that you see if you look at a map and start at the detroit river and go inland from there. And one other cool thing, although we cant give credit to old Henry, cause this idea just started happening a couple of years ago. They have a new building(I believe at the Rouge site)That has a living roof!Thats right, the roof is covered with grass.I forget what all the advantages were, but I know one of them was that it helped to keep the building cool during the summer.Hmmm,Could you imagine,,,So I hear you work at Ford, what do you do?Um,,I mow the roof!

Are you allowed to use paper resources such as brochures? I work at Ford in Dearborn and we're right across from the Henry Ford Museum etc... I could probably scrounge up some interesting stuff. We've got some old cars in the buildings too... I don't know that I'm allowed to drag a camera around (visual aids boost the old grade) but it's really cool if you ever get a chance to visit some of the buildings. If you let me know tonight or sometime tomorrow I can probably stop by the museum at lunch or after work and pick some stuff up.

Great topic. This is a bit of info that I always use with my History classes. I am sure you have found this but here is a bit of interesting info:
  • In 1908 the Ford company initiated production of the celebrated Model T. Until 1927, when the Model T was discontinued in favor of a more up-to-date model, the company produced and sold about 15 million cars.
  • In the period from 1937 to 1941, the Ford company became the only major manufacturer of automobiles in the Detroit area that had not recognized any labor union as the collective bargaining representative of employees.Ford was constrained to negotiate a standard labor contract after a successful strike by the workers at his main plant at River Rouge, Michigan, in April 1941.
  • Early in 1941 Ford was granted government contracts whereby he was, at first, to manufacture parts for bombers and, later, the entire airplane. By the end of World War II (1945) this plant had manufactured more than 8000 planes.
  • Ford was active in several other fields besides those of automobile and airplane manufacturing. In 1915 he chartered a peace ship, which carried him and a number of like-minded individuals to Europe, where they attempted without success to persuade the belligerent governments to end World War I.
  • He was nominated for the office of U.S. senator from Michigan in 1918 but was defeated in the election. In the following year he erected the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit at a cost of $7.5 million. In 1919 he became the publisher of the Dearborn Independent, a weekly journal, which at first published anti-Semitic material. After considerable public protest, Ford directed that publication of such articles be discontinued and that a public apology be made to the Jewish people.
  • Advancing age obliged Ford to retire from the active direction of his gigantic enterprises in 1945. He died on April 7, 1947, in Dearborn. Ford left a personal fortune estimated at $500 to $700 million, bequeathing the largest share of his holdings in the Ford Motor Company to the Ford Foundation, a nonprofit organization.

best of luck with your report.

I think the thesis should be reworded to this "For more than 90 years Ford motor company has been hailed, by most of the general public, as the most innovative and forward thinking auto manufacturer in the world."

As far as revising the thesis goes, I wouldn't include the part about the general public. That's more like expressing someone else's opinion... From my understanding a thesis statement is more sure of itself... for example:
"For more than 90 years, Ford Motor Company has thrived as one of the most innovative and forward-thinking auto manufacturers in the world."
-or maybe something like-
"Keeping with tradition, Ford Motor Company continues to move forward and develop new technology for the changing world ahead."
I'm sure you'll come up with something that flows with your paper well though... you don't want to make it sound choppy! Oh yeah, and I'd be extra careful if I were you to avoid using phrases that are too close to this thread because, since you did tell your teacher you were using this, I'm sure it'll be google-ed or sought out otherwise... not that you'd do it intentionally, but I know I've done my share of not paraphrasing well enough the first time.
