hi , does anyone have an delphi xm radio or a sirius satilite radio ?? if so what are the pros and cons of each and which would be a better purchase ??
thanks in advance
I have both and they are pretty much the same. XM has a few more stations but sirius has fewer commercials. They both cost about the same too. XM has the Nascar channel and Sirius doesn't. Sirius has better weather but all in all it's about even. Check out both websites for more information and then pick out what best fits your style.
Oh yeah not all the stations are commercial free. Each has about 60 channels that are.
I've been informed that they don't work in tunnels. Also, being in a deep valley with tall mountians can interrupt the signal.
That is true, in long tunnels they will lose signal and if you are in deep canyons with steep sides you can lose it. Also in major cities with skyscrapers they can affect the reception but in most of the major cities they have terrestrial repeaters to broadcast the signal thus the loss is minuscule.
Bill, XM kind of sucks in Spokane if you do much driving downtown. Other than that it's not too bad. Their satillites are at a lower latitude, centralized to reach the whole US so anytime something blocks the signal to the south of your rig your radio cuts out. If I'm on the freeway and a semi is in the lane south of me it blocks the signal. Bridges, tunnels, parking garages, steep hills (like the cliffs on I-84 on the way to Portland), etc will all cause a block of the signal and your radio cuts out temporarily. In major cities the repeaters solve all that. I can drive ANYWHERE in Seattle or Portland and never lose a signal, even in those super long tunnels on I-90 as you get into Seattle. I'm hoping eventually Spokane will get some repeaters to solve these issues.
Overall though, I'd say it's well worth the $10 a month. I have the Playboy channel but I thought it kind of sucks . . . no pun intended. I probably won't renew that one next time. But all the rest is great, comedy channel ROCKS, and if you like conservative talk shows (and I know you do Bill ) there's plenty of that too.
I have been an XM subscriber for almost 3 years. Love it. Havn't tuned in FM but a few times in 3 years to catch a MS STATE college football game.
I drive 30-50k miles a year in the MS/TN/AL area and the only time I lose the signal is under bank and fast food drive through places with a roof that blocks southern exposure.
If you are thinking about signing up for it, check out the programming before you do. I listen to talk radio and with how bad AM reception is I might be willing to pay for sat, but they don't carry any of the programs I listen too. Also, talk does have the commercials... it's only the music that does not.
I have xm in my 18 wheeler and would not drive without it. If the xm is down, the truck is down until the radio is fixed. The $10 per month is worth it, great information, has traffic channels for most major cities and can listen to my favorite channel anywhere is US. So many choices of music, comedy, news, and coming in 05 - ALL the baseball games, if you are a fan. Also, has NASCAR channel. Love my xm!!!!!!!!!!
What is the antenna situation with these? I'm thinking of getting one, but I have a hidden antenna in my hot rod, as it is under the dash. Can you mount the antenna under your dash, or does it have to be on the outside of the car?
