Question Flowmasters?

I have a 1996 F150 2WD supercab with a 5.8L. I want to get true duals with flowmasters but want a mellow sound. People on this forum seem to really like the 40 series, but I also see that others believe it to be too deep. Has anyone dealt with the 50 series and is it really queiter than 40 series? Also am trying to figure what to do about exiting. Dumps? Turn downs? Behind rear wheels? or under bumper? Any thoughts and/or comments would be greatly appreciated!

I think a 50 series delta flow might be what you want. My 40 series delta flow is pretty loud.

Look in my gallery and see my exits before the rear wheel.

Exclamation Thanks w/ info

Thanks for the info. I was figuring that was going to be the way for me to go. I also talked to the guy at the muffler shop and he recommended not removing the cats. He said that my truck has the o2 sensors on both sides of the cats which would cause the check engine light to come on if removed. If anyone has info on this please let me know.....

MIL eliminators will take care of the CEL, or just keep the cats. They dont hurt flow that much.

If you want mellow and dont have to have Flowmasters, Magnaflow makes some really nice sounding mufflers.

I have the 50 series delta flows on my 460 and they sound pretty good, quiet while crusing down the road but have a good rumble when you put the throttle down.

I have the 50 Delta Series as well on a 400. It sounds great much quieter than the old 40 than was on it. Also have you looked into free flow converters. There are a ton out there, usually around 50 bucks, and they work great.

A MIL eliminator provides a set voltage to the computer making it think everything is okay preventing check engine lights and drivability issues.

I see!!! Does anyone know where to get one of these? I would rather get rid of the cats and have free flow.

i just put on the flowmaster 50 series cat back system on my truck. its the system that come out under the bumper..sounds really good. it has a nice low rumble or thunder sound. but i also put shorty headers on which also make it a little louder and i also put a bigger ford racing cam in so my truck sounds really good with this exhaust system. hope this helps..

If you want to go through the work of removing the cats for flow only, you will probably be dissapointed. Stock cats flow much better than most people think, and there will not be much of a gain just from removing them.

If you must, MIL eliminators are available all over the net, or you can make your own using designs found on the net. A quick Google search should get you all the info you need.
