ok everyone, i have a 99 f250 super duty 5.4L, and i just put on a flowmaster single in dual out 40 series. i put it right after the cat, and had each outlet go straight back, and dump down just in front of the axle. but, it is not much different than stock. do i need to remove the cat? im really not impressed at all with this quiet sound. thanks for your advice in advance.
Yes cats do cut down the sound alot. On your 99' sd, do you have a 02 sensor after the cat (my 03' sd V10 does)? If you remove the cat will you have to run MIL eliminators to keep from getting check engone lights? Also, I wonder if the computer can compensate for lack of a cat. I put the banks powerpack on my V10, which changed the exhaust system completely except for the cat. Everything else is changed. I changed the banks muffler and put on a flowmaster 70 series instead. I did that because V10's are not V8's so yuck. But anyways it is way louder than stock. It has a costant sound to it. It never goes silent, even at highway cruising speeds. I always can hear it.
yes, i do have turn downs....... i have dual outs running about 18" then dumping to the road, just in front of the axle...... so should i cut them off at the muffler, or just before it bends down? and if i do cut them off, then should i still leave the cat in, or take it out as well and just run the flowie? thanks again !!!
as of now, superduties don't require an 02 sensor after the cat. They are not OBD2 certified because they are too heavy. My 03 doesn't have an oxygen sensor after the cat. I really can't find the exhaust I really want, so I thing I may just replace my muddler with apiece of pipe, and use the stock tubing.
92f150...... that is eaxctly what i tried at first..... it didnt sound too bad, but if i was climbing a hill and hit around 3000 rpm's, then it sounded really high pitched and annoying. what i did now was just remove the cat entirely and have a pipe in its place, then the flowie 40, and have both outlets dumped..... it sounds pretty good. i may have pipes bent to run out the rear and then have nice tips installed.... but i like it for now.
If you cut them off right after the muffler and than remove your cat than you are asking for annoying loud. So if you just remove your cat and leave the turn downs alone and it will be louder than what you have now. Sorry the response is so late. Good Luck...
well 90f150, i did remove the cat and left the turndowns on it the way it was.... i am pretty happy with it. i may eventually put some pipes out to the rear with tips.....
well, i wouldnt say it is too loud...... but it does have a nice deep, mellow rumble. i think it sounds good..... i personally dont want it any louder. it was obnoxious when i pirst just removed the stock muffler and ran a pipe in its place. after 3000 rpm's it was annoying. im pretty happy now.
