03 Expy E/B 5.4L About 35,200 miles on it. I am pretty sure I will be getting the extended warranty thru dealer, haven't decided on deductible yet.
Will probably go with to best warranty they offer.
Have had clutch pack fixed, door gaskets replaced, brake pads and front rotors repalced at about 32K under warranty. The side mirrors are starting to act up, and I have noticed a little rust (not bad) on the rear seats. Will be taking it in before 36K for these problems and to get the extended warranty.
Do you all think there is any chance of getting the ext warranty at a reduced premium? If so, how, or how do I present the request? I am not a salesman or very diplomatic, so any help would be appreciated.
I am, or I should say my wife is very happy with the vehicle. I think it has a lot of problems, although if it weren't for this site and everybodys input I would not have known about several of the problems until it was to late(out of warranty)
We plan on keeping this rig for at least 8 years. My opinion is, if this year has had so many problems, the dealer should be willing to deal on the premium of the extended warranty. Any ideas on how to get them to do this or has any of you been able to do this in the past?

Easy...you tell them you want to buy an extended warranty at their cost or $100 over. They'll do it. It's worked for me 3 times. We bought the Premium Care (6 year/100k miles/$50 deductible) extended warranty on my wife's O2 EB Explorer for $1100 when we bought the truck used last summer. Ask any Ford rep...they'll tell you that's a deal!
Before you tip your hand, ask them what the cost is, then offer them what you want to pay for it. I believe we got her warranty for about half of what they'd charged otherwise.
I stopped buy a large Ford Dealer today, (not the one where I bought Expy). Talked to the Business Manager, told him I would like to know what their cost was on an ext warranty. 7 year, 100K miles, he proceeded to tell me my cost would be 1800$. I thought that was pretty good considering the price I got from Fords ESP web site was around 2800$. Both with 0 deduct.
I then asked if it was thru Ford ESP, he said NO, National Warranty.
They don't sell the Ford plan, which seemed kinda strange, with them being a Ford Dealer. Anyway I asked him if that price(1800.) was his cost, he said they do not divulge their cost on anything!
I thanked him for his time and left.
How do I know what their cost actually is? I am sure they have been asked this before, they could tell me anything. I have no way of proving it.
Does 2800$ sound like to much for 7 years, 100K miles ext warranty for 03 E/B 5.4 4X4 with 35,400 miles. Thats for the Premium/Gold/full blown/top of the line/ coverage with 0 deductable.
YES...that sounds like TOO MUCH (at least to me.) We got my wife's 6yr/100k mile/$50 deductible warranty for $1100, and it is Ford's Premium Care Extended warranty - the most extensive Ford warranty available.
