Pre-gapped or not to pre-gapped ?

I noticed in various threads concerning Autolite Double Platinum Spark plugs
that they come pre-gapped from the factory. I found this in the FAQ at autolite the Autolite webpage :

Do Autolite spark plugs come pre-gapped from the factory?

Autolite and all spark plug manufacturers offer spark plugs pre-gapped in the most popular gap sizes. Because of the many gap sizes required, no one offers spark plugs properly gapped for every application. Gapping has always been the job of the installer. You can be sure that the Autolite® spark plug recommended for your application has been engineered to meet the requirements of your engine, and that the gap can easily be adjusted as required.

So , What are your thoughts ... and has anyone improved their gas mileage after changing their plug gaps' back to what came out of the factory box ?

Always refer to your to the Ford Factory spec for you plugs and insure that the plugs are gapped correctly. Don't trust what any plug manufacture to do this job for you. Handle after manufacturing can change the gap.

Of course none of this applies if you have an aftermarket ingition.
