5r55e doesnt shift at WOT
i have had this problem a long time, and it just was rebuilt last week and still does the same thing. IF you floor it pulling into traffic, it redlines and doesnt shift until you let off the gas pedal and wait, then you can floor it again. I had the tranny rebuilt because 3rd gear was shot, and the torque converter was shot. Now it shift really nice during normal driving, i gained 4 mpg on the highway, and it feels almost new again after 135K miles. BUT it still wont shift at WOT.
Is there a sensor on the engine that tells it when to shift, or is there a computer upgrade? any input/experiences is greatly appreciated. thanks guys.
btw, its a 98 eddie bauer 2wd explorer, with the 4.0 ohc engine

i had kind of the similar prolblem. they rebuilt the transmission, prolblem was still there, rebuilt it again, prolblem was still there. finially they replaced the valve body and it went away. thank god it was under warranty

wow, i hope it doesnt need a valve body. A friend of my cousin's runs the shop that overhauled it, and he gave me a fair price, better than other shops in the area. I'd hate to be a pain in the *** about it but i want it fixed right. I'll talk to him tomorrow and see what they did with the valve body. Those trannies are notorious for leaking valve bodies that cause endless problems. Mine is the same problem twice though, which led me to think its some sort of sensor on the engine not telling the tranny to shift up or down.
