I have a ZF/bw13-56 combo out of my 89' F-250. This unit has the cable operated speedometer unit going to the very end of the transfer case right before the driveshaft begins.
I also have an M5OD/bw 13-56 combo out of my 95 F-150. This does not have that. I am going to swap both of the entire units in the two trucks pending the answer to this question.
Will the tailshaft on the two transfer cases swap? I'd like to swap transfer cases as well as transmissions, but I kinda want to keep the speedo working, they look like they'll swap over if I just changed the ends of the transfer cases. Anyone have a confirmation on that? The 95 doens't use the cable so it's not a direct swap, pending this cable issue.
Well, i got the answer...so I mine as well answer my own question...
The tailshaft will swap, you just need to remove the 4 bolts on it, pull it off, and remove the plastic speedometer gear from the shaft. You push it foward and remove the little metal ball and it'll slide off.
