I have a '97 F-350 powerstroke and I have a problem.
It starts fine,idles and sounds great. But the other day while driving it just died.
Like it ran out of fuel. I had plenty of fuel. It would start back up just fine and idle great. But when I went to drive it would quit again. Had to have a tow truck take it home.
I have put fuel conditioner in and also changed the fuel filter. I took a chance and drove it up the road, and it sounded like it was about to die so I luckly got it back home. It seems that when it gets warm or there is an incline in the road that's when it dies. I am getting ready to change the fuel pump.
I have talked to some people around here and no one knows what I can do.
I would appriciate any suggestions as to what I can do to fix this problem.
This truck is very heavy and long it is a 4 door long wheel base. It takes a heavy duty wrecker or an extremely long roll back. So I want to make sure I get it fixed because the wrecker bill is high. I really do not want to take it to the dealers garage as that too will be very costly on me.
Sounds like the cam sensor to me. Its about a 150 dollar part from ford but can be bought cheaper on e-bay or at a International dealer. About a 10 min. repair.
Please tell me what a cps is. I am a woman and do not understand this stuff. I am writing in behalf of my husband who knows nothing about using a computer.
thank YOu for repling to me. My question now is would this still allow the truck to sit and idle? Because it idles perfect. It's just when it gets warmed up from driving or when it comes to a small hill it will die.
When mine went bad it would not idle more than 5 mins without dieing. Also would stutter and try to shut off at 70 mph on highway in fastlane. I got that fixed real quick!!
