interior swap
will the interior out of a 87-91 truck go in a 80-86 truck without any major modifications? the exterior looks as if the f series has had the same cab from 80-96. and if i do do this, what about the vin? can i just unbolt the old one and bolt it in the new interior? cuz i dont wanna have one truck sayin its another. thanks for all the help.

I've seen an '86 with the '87-'91 door panels installed, so I know they'll work. The cab should also be the same, so I don't see why the dash won't bolt up, either, but you may have more trouble with the switches and electrical connections to the heater/ac, radio, instruments, etc. You may look more deeply into this...... you may try going to your local parts store and comparing the differences (if any) of, say, an '86 wiper or headlight switch to those of an '87. You may be looking at a real headache, here, if these (and more) items are different. As for the VIN tag, I don't see why you couldn't swap the plate, as what you're doing is trying to remain honest, rather than the other way around. Be advised, though, that the VIN tag is a real "sensitive" area in the eyes of the vehicular powers that be, sort of like the odometer. It will help if your door jamb sticker is still intact and legible, to back things up, and you may want to casually ask your local DMV "on behalf of a good friend of yours" to see what their take on the matter would be.
