I think Tim has an oilguard system if I remember right. As long as someone brought up the subject, is the Oilguard air filter the same filter made by Donaldson, and marketed by Motorcraft? I've been meaning to post this, but never got around to it. I need an air filter in 800 more miles(30,000). Thanks to all.

I don't know the answer guydiver12 but after the great service I got from Oilguard when I placed my order at their website and when I spoke to a contact via phone, and after getting confirmation the Oilguard oil filter at $11 is the same as the one Motocraft wants a lot more money for, I will be buying my air cleaner filter from Oilguard. No doubt about that. Price, after all, does matter.

If you buy any combination of 6 or more filters, shipping is free. I usually buy 4 oil filters and 2 packs of fuel filters. Their oil filters are $11.58 and a pack of fuel filters is $39.00 They are Wix brand. Fuel filter part number is 33599 and oil filter part number is 57314. Not sure what shipping would be if you don't order the combination of 6. Hope this helps...Deac

has anyone done a oil sample check with the oil guard system to see if there are any improvements as the company claims. The system sounds very good but a friend had an amsoil system on his 93 7.3l dsl and found very little difference when samples were taken. The other question is in the installation process, where do the hoses run in engine compartment and what position did people install there filter on the frame rail?

Delawhere...Yes I have done the sample, did not care if the oil report was showing signs of less trace elements...I bought it because it ADDS to an already great filter....the two systems coupled together is the best I want to run on my truck. The new truck ..will have one on soon and I will check the particulates ...through the OilGuard....later. I did mount mine horizontal (not hanging done)….none of the new lines hang below the truck which offers a very clean installation.

The great thing it has a pet-**** that lets you do a sample quicker than you can ...well it is fast!

Oilguard vs Racor filters

Sorry if this has been discussed, but the oilguard site offers oil filters for $11.00 each (3 packs) or Racor filters for $21.00 each.

Wix filters at my local NAPA store are 22.00 plus tax. Are the 11.00 filters from oilguard any good? I recently installed the oilguard bypass system if that makes any difference.

I merged your thread with this thread...Admin
Enjoy

Foud,

I have been wondering about whether these filters were THE SAME as the OEM. You say you got confirmation. Any chance that is in writing? There are a few guys in the diesel section here who keep saying these filters from Oilguard/Racor are the same but I have never seen that statement backed up. We all know the Oilguard (or any company) sales people will tell you anything they think you want to hear to make the sale. The same pretty much goes for their tech guys (they want to keep their jobs).

I can't begin to tell you how many times I have been surveying a piece of wooded land and the neighbor comes out from next door to ask what I'm doing. I tell them we are surveying for a new subdivision--for new houses, you know. They are shocked. "Well, the realtor said no one could ever build on this land and it would always be wooded."

"Lady," I always say. "Realtors are sales people. They will say ANYTHING to line their pockets."

I am buying the Wix filters from filter1.com because:

1) I can't find Motorcraft around here except from dealer and I am not going to pay them their price;
2) Oilguard's website and their listing two different filters and not really saying which is which and why one is more than the other has me confused. A little clarification would be nice.

I have held both in my hands...they are the same….YES the writing is on the end of the filter....both stock and OilGuards…I don't knw how many more ways I can say they are the same!~!

A comment about this statement...I know that some might do this. Mark at OilGuard is the Tech/Sales /Engineer....he is quality folks, for that matter they all are.
I bought my OilGuard system before I was a member of FTE, it is a GREAT product....period

The first three or four times I changed my oil I went to the Ford dealer and paid dearly for the Motorcraft filter.

I live in Carlsbad, which is about 10 miles from the Oilguard shop in Oceanside, so I called them to see if I could go to the shop and buy the filters in person and save everyone the shipping. They said sure.

So, over I went. I've held the Motorcraft filters in my hand and held the Oilguard Racor filters in my hand and to my eyes they are the same critter.

I'm someone who usually doesn't have a problem buying a name brand product as long as I feel I'm getting my money's worth. In this case I really do believe that they are the same filter minus the Motorcraft box and when I use up the three pack that I bought I'll drive back over there and buy more from the nice folks at Oilguard.

My suggestion to anyone who doubts that they are the same filter and feels strongly that they should use only the filters they purchase directly from the dealer is to go ahead and keep doing that - it's your truck and your money.

To anyone who is on the fence, buy a Motorcraft filter and buy an Oilguard filter. Once you have both in your hand do a comparison for yourself. If you're not satisfied that they are the same exact thing, you can probably return the filter to Oilguard for just the cost of shipping.

I have had the Motocraft oil filter from Ford and the $11.00 Oilguard filter in my hands and they are identical as far as I am concerned. Same patent numbers, same location for the date of manufacture. I believe the Oilguard filters will do me just fine. And by the way, I like the price as well.
