I have now been to the dealer twice for the Climate control going dark on my '05 Lariat. The first time was -30 deg and after the svc mgr worked on it for 45 mins he had it sent to the shop for the tech to work on. When the tech started it the next day viola! It worked again so I got a "could not duplicate".
Yesterday, +50 deg went out, started the beast and hmmmm, no climate control center, it was black again... Drove to the dealer, had the svc mgr come out and I asked him to turn up the heat. He looked at it, hit the up button and realized it was totally dark. He called out a mech to document that it was in fact dark and I told them I couldn't bring it in until today.
I was then informed that if it went back on before I brought it in that I would end up with a "could not duplicate" because it is now working and the can't troubleshoot a working device, nor will ford pay them to throw parts at it.
Now before anyone rips the dealer he has been the ONLY one to stand up for me with Ford and the DSB to date but he is limited in what Hotline will allow him to do.
Unfortunately it is very difficult to isolate an intermittent problem. It may have a cold solder joint on a printed board somewhere. Be persistant, but friendly.
My fiance and I have a used exterra that had Air Conditioner problems last summer. It was intermittent, but fortunatley it was still under warranty and the service department at the Nissan Dealership was good with us. We got a rental car on 3 different occasions. Good Luck!
I to had the same problem...one cold morning my family setout to Salt Lake City and the Climate Control system was out, completely...Never got it working until I was on the interstate I decided to turn the head lights on...And sure enough the thing started working...fan, lights, everthing...No more problems with that...but now my radio's volume shuts on and off until the truck warms up and starts down the road...anyone else had that problem...Thanks...Big D
Maybe, in fact that sounds likely. The other thought I came up with is that something is wrong at the steering wheel. Unfortunately, they will not work on it since they say they cannot duplicate it althought they have seen and verified it while it was malfunctioning.
BTW, I was interviewed by a local paper yesterday, seems the reporter saw my decorated (lemons all over it) truck and was intrigued by it. Tourist season starts here soon where we play host to a couple of million people from all over the world that come to see Glacier Park. How's that for advertising? Again, all I ever wanted was for them to take this thing back and give me one that works.
Actually, I was serious. My Civics CEL came on one day. The lights would pulsate, the speedo didn't work. I found someone to pull the codes, and there was 4 of them. Wierd I thought. I called the Honda service mgr. and explained what happened. I told him I thought it was too wierd for 4 codes to come up all of a sudden. He said hmmm, something is coming to mind. He checked something and found some sort of history on this. He said I bet it's a wiring short underneath the engine.
I brought it in, and sure enough that's what it was. $80 and I was out the door with no problems. Sure glad I didn't start replacing sensors.
What are the build dates on these trucks...anyone know?
Haya..can you find out...I know t_j will know
He's up on a job about 45 mins from me, but he's here on a 'fairly' regular basis.. When I see it here in the yard, I'll get the build date.. Also, he lost the turbo oil supply oring, and soaked the top of the engine with oil.. Clean oil though!!!
