It helps to remove the belt, but not necessary. Lay underneath the truck and use a 10mm socket with about a 6'' extension if I remember right, and then just remove the bolt and replace. Takes some very creative bending to get to it but I found that to works well.
i just did on this morning. real easy to get to from right side underneath with the belt on. 3/8" ratchet, 4" in extension and a deep 10mm socket. hardest thing was gettin the 6 year old sensor out of the hole. it kinda was stuck.
Ok, uneducated question time. Why does this sensor need to be replaced and how often? What does the cam position sensor do?
When it failes the engine will refuse to run. It gets a reading from the camshaft and sends timing information to the Engine Control Module. Without a good signal from the CPS the ECM has no idea what the timing of the engine is and just shuts down or at best makes the engine run real crappy.

And just add to Kwikk's post .... It could last years like sertman's ( 6 yr. ) or just a few months . It's a good idea to carry a spare in the glovecompartment ( is that supposed to be one word ? ) , and get it at an International dealer , their're cheaper then Ford .
i changed it out for preventitive maint only. the fully functioning original is in the tool boin the truck bed). i just figured better to replaced it under my terms and not the trucks.
