Can you buy these seats aftermarket or from FORD for an 01 Super Duty? I'm sure there has to be away becuause what would people do if they wrecked their KR edition truck and damaged their seat. I'm curious to hear if anyone knows of someone that purchased a set.
Are you talking about the brown saddle bag looking leather? I love those too. Ford calls it Castano leather. I'd like to do the same thing with my 97 if they fit.
I din't get King Ranch seats but I just purchase a set of leather buckets from a wrecked '02 excursion for my '99 F250 on eBay. Bolted right in and look great. $860 upgrade from cloth and the cheapest deal I found. I had to buy the seats not just covers, because the passenger seat was removed before I got the truck from an estate. New leather covers were much cheaper but probably required pro install, and obviously required the actual seat! I did find a company on eBay that would build me a set of custom seats for about the same money out of Elkhart, IN. But sight unseen, I decided to go with factory seats. The seat of KR seats on eBay are ungodly expensive!!!
Thanks for the input and I could imagine if I find a set of KRs on ebay I bet the will cost a shiny penny or two. I may have to look at Lariet set or and after market but man I sure like that saddle look.
This is a late post to your question but interesting. I work for a Ford dealer and a month ago a body shop ordered a set of KR seat covers to replace the original ones damaged by a leaking sun roof. There may have been a few items for the sun roof on the bill but I remember the figure $2400+ on the bottom line. This included the cover for the center console. Kind of took my breath away when I saw the figure. The body man said that insurance covered the cost. I asked him about the old ones and he thought that the insurance company might want them. I told him that if they didn't, I did. Unfortunately the truck is south for the winter so he hasn't done the change yet.
A few months ago I was looking up KR covers for my son's '99 350 PSD when the parts manager walked by and asked what I was doing. I told him and he said "follow me". We went to the dumpster where he had just scrapped a set of KR covers from a warranty claim. They showed some "wear" and were replaced. Needless to say I went dumpster diving and got the whole set including the console cover. By 6pm the next night, they were on my son's seats. Not a hard job but not as complete as a factory installation. There were some velcro strips that fastened to strips on the seat cushions. Some of these were pulled loose or in a different location between the seat cushion and KR covers. Also the "shoulders" of the KR covers didn't fit tightly on the seat backs. Didn't matter. They got put on. This really made the interior of his pickup look a lot nicer than the original leather which was in bad shape. He has the medium prairie tan which looks great with the KR leather. Also, the KR covers are much softer than the original and padded so they sit very comfortably. I did have to get the plastic pins that hold the plastic covers on the lower back of the seats. They broke when we removed them.
Why am I telling you all this? Talk to the Ford dealer and some body shops and you might find a set of KR covers that would suit you fine, especially for the low cost. Yeah, it's worth it but not $2400.
Thanks for the great information and now you have me wanting to go dumpster diving myself. If your Ford friend tells you they threw away some more decent ones I would be more than glad to pay you for your time and the shipping lol. I will check with our dealer here and see if they have ever changed out any and what do they do with the covers. I don't have leather seats at this time so I wonder if they would slip over the factory cloth seats with the cloth cover off. Who knows but thanks again for the idea.
macrac,
I checked the part numbers for the seat and back cushions and they are the same regardless of what cover is put on, BUT they may be year specific, vary from year to year. The shape of the seats may not change much but where the velcro and fasteners are may change.
Good luck on locating a set of covers if that is what you decide to do. If I get a hand on the set being replaced, I'll let you know.
