Tires

I'm about to put some new tires on my '03 Fx4 F150, how big can I go w/o putting a lift kit on? and does anyone know a cheap place to find: bull guards, roll bars, lift kits, etc.

My 4X4 had 305/70-16's on it when I got it and they give no clearance problems. That said, I would definitely NOT recommend large tires unless you ABSOLUTELY need them for flotation in frequent super muddy conditions. For running around on the streets and highways the extra mass takes LOTS of extra fuel to turn them and LOTS of extra braking to stop them. They are totally unpractical for normal driving.

When mine wear out I will be going to 245/70-16's. I drive through my fields and pastures alot, but I have learned from many years of four wheeling that the big tires offer extra traction only in the VERY sloppiest and wettest of conditions. The kind of conditions that you really hate to subject your truck to unless absolutely necessary.

Good luck,
Doc
