On my cam....it was recommended by the cam supplier for the stock 390. Since I've learned now to put in 360 pistons for increased compression is this cam still ok? I want a noticable idle. Let me recap what I have as the thread has gotten long.

1973 Ford f100 2wd 390 AT. I am boring .030 over, installing 360 pistons, headers, edelbrock performer intake, 4 barrel carb...not sure what yet...and the cam I originally purchased is a compcam 33-238-4 based on their recommendation. I also plan to put a 4.1 gear rearend and 31" or 32" tires. This is to be an everyday driver. It won't be used to haul or pull heavy loads. I don't care about gas mileage, I want as much performance as I can get without ruining it for everyday driving. The truck has power brakes and from what I've read I have to be careful as too much cam will kill the vacuum. Thanks for all the information I've received. BTW...what book is everyone talking about on here about building FE engines...and where can I get it? Thanks Again!

You might look into the next bigger size cam to complement the higher compression. I suggest the Crane 343941. If you like Comp cams, the 33-248-4 looks like the ticket.

The book is "How to Rebuild Big-Block Ford Engines," by Steve Christ. It is available on this site.
