Hello I just bought a 1999 f150 lariat, and it has a recent (maybe serious) engine problem,....first there is a loud tapping in the right valve cover, and is wont stay running,....its like the whole right sie of the engine is not running,....NOW... there is NO water in the oil, It has FULL oil pressure,, and both actual problems seem to be occuring from the same thing. so i am about to pull the right valve cover and see if theres and issues in there,..please let me know this info if poss:
1: what the actual problem could be
2: what to do to fix it
3: the easiest way to remove the valve covers ect
Sounds like a timing issue. Maybe a valve train problem. If the valve and the piston hit each other, a piston might be damaged.
Pull the right side valve cover for sure, but I'd also pull the timing cover and inspect the timing @ TDC. Turn the engine by hand using a socket wrench and watch the valves work, look for broken valve springs, missing valve keepers, etc.
Finally, if all that looks ok, do a compression check on each cylinder.
The reason you don't have water and oil mixed is because you haven't blown a head gasket.
