truck smokes why

help my 2002 f150 4.6 smokes when i start it but at no other time only 40000 miles never drove hard is this normal every time i crank it up then its fine after about5secs.

If it's cold (below say 50d)where you're at then yes, it's normal.

it seems to be oil smoke to me not condensate . thanks for your input

If you are talking about a quick puff at startup then goes away, mine does it to, but only when the truck has been sitting for a while. It doesn't use oil so I don't worry about it.

Valve stem seals more than likely. They are letting a small amount of oil into the cylinders when sitting.

I have a 2002 4.6 F150 that smokes oil smoke on warm start up, doesn't seem to be a problem on cold starts. 35K miles. Only had it a couple months, not sure of oil consumption.

that happened to my 2000 f150 5.4l
went to the dealer and they told me could be rings ,valve seals ect.ect.
so i changed the PVC valve and it cleared right up.
about $1.98 from auto zone.
