FE oil temp

Does anyone know what the average oil temp is on an FE? I wanted to find out so I could choose the proper weight oil.

My 428 runs an oil temp of 190 to 210F. A long, hard pull will raise it slightly, but not more than 10-15F.

my oil temp runs about 195 to 215 no higher and without a oil cooler

gtex-yes that is very close to water temp also. It actually runs slightly higher most of the time. I do not have an oil cooler either.

What would be considered too high of an oil temperature???

I dont know if you can have too high of an oil temp. But knowing the oil temp is important so you choose the proper weight oil. For example, some engines run an oil temp of 300 degrees, so you would want to run a real thick oil like 20-50 in it so the oil wouldnt break down at such high tempatures.
