Does it come out the front or out the passenger door?
Which is easier? The front end (grill/radiator etc..) is damaged
so I can pull all that stuff off if I have to.
Thanks.
Thanks - getting the van this week and pulling the 351W out
for another project also trans and maybe 9 inch rear. Do you
know what kind of (auto) trans this might have? 84 E150
C4 or C6, possibly AOD?
C6, no AOD yet that year. You will probably want to remove the carb, and anything else that sticks up above the valve covers, this gives you a little more room to work with.
Just pulled a 460 out of my 79 E-150 (used to have a 351W)
Did once swap the 351W out the side door. the front is easyer.
I always remove the intake manifold to.
I am presently performing the engine repl. you are attempting. If your van is equipped with the 4.9l 300ci six you're gonna have a handful! First, remove the; hood, horizontal radiator support, fan shroud, radiator, grille, and lower wind deflector (below the grille). This wind deflector seems to be easily removable but be careful because there's two nut/bolts in the lower corners where it attaches to the left/right fenders. NOW strip off the air cleaner, carberator, vacuum lines, throttle cable assy. and all frontal belt driven accessories. (Alternator, power steering pump , air pump for the emmissions equipment, water pump & fan, disributor, plug wires, and exhaust pipe at the collector. There may be one or two things I'm forgetting but my project has been four weeks in duration as I can only break from work on Sundays. Now a word on engine cranes, if you can obtain one via borrow or rental your gonna want the lowest height crane obtainable on account of the terribly short clearance there is going to be between the valve cover and the cowling in the moter nacelle. I cannot stress this enough, BE PATIENT this will be a pecker to remove and install. THis is primarily due to the higher profile of the 300 six in comparison with V-8's Good luck man.
