gear reduction starter?

will a late model 4.9 manual transmission gear reduction starter work with a older 300 bellhousing?

I'm mocking up the engine installation in a 87 f250 4x4. I'm running out of room near the starter with dual 2 1/4" pipes coming down between the frame and starter and I know the gear reduction starters are a little smaller.

69 300, 80 flywheel, 84 hydraulic bellhousing
regular starter works fine but its a little close to the pipes for me.

no one knows?

the starter is listed as:
w/Manual Transmission; Permanet Magnet Gear Reduction Starter; FORD; 12V; 10 Tooth; 1.4 KW; Clock-Wise Rotation

I don't want to spend $100-$150 + a core charge to find out

I believe so- Bring your old starter to auto zone or advance, and compare it to the new one. If they match up pretty well in the drive area, you should be good to go.
