My wiper fluid light came on, so I filed er up with some of the best free fluid that came my way. However, the light didn't go off, AND, no fluid coming out to clean those dirty windows. I hear the fluid motor working when I call on it, but still no fluid spraying on my front or rear windows. Anyone know why or what is going on here with my 99 expy?
To the best of my knowledge the light only senses level in the container, it cannot tell if the system is not working. Is it cold where you are ? if so you may have a frozen line. You did fill the proper container ? Follow the rubber lines back from the squits on the hood and disconnect at a joint and see if fuild comes out there, keep going to you fined where it is not flowing.
The light is a low fluid level warning only. It relies upon the position of a plastic cube-shaped float that travels in a plastic chimney-like guide found about two inches away from the filler opening. The float in my tank was once trapped in the lowest position by a white filmy buildup that prevented proper movement of the float. I removed the washer tank (a bit of a SOB, as I had to remove the battery to access some of the mounting bolts) and soaked it in hot soapy water followed by a blast from a kitchen sink vegetable sprayer. Float movement restored, still working properly two years after this treatment.
Well, in terms of the washer fluid warning light, it CAN be a defective sensor, which is mounted to the side of the tank, but what I described worked for me.
my 03 works but the light on the dash comes on too soon. If I fill the tank as soon as the light comes on it only holds about a quart. I can see the top of the fluid only about a inch from the top.
Thanks for the info!!!!! I'll check the lines per your advice and hopefully can restore the flow of fluid to the windows and get some of that smear wiped off. Thanks agian!

Mine was the same way until I got ticked off at it and shoved my pressure washer in there. After a healthy washing and seeing lots of "stuff" flow out the top, it now only comes on when it is down to a 1/4 full. (or 3/4 empty depending on you point of view. )
Sometimes patience isn't my virtue or I woulda done what PaulC did.
My 03 did the exact same thing! My bro said that thier was a TSB on it.
So the next time that I brought it it to the Ford Agency, they replaced it under warranty. It was as simple as that!

I'll have to check RO for sure ( wife driving it today due to 04 taurus warranty work being done on dash burnt electrical wiring smell) and get back ASAP. The paperwork is in the owners manual compartment wallet. My bro said also to cease using that washer fluid solvent junk because it causes most of the clogging up of the fluid lines. It hasn't given me a bit a trouble ever since. Honest Injun!

i cant stand the fact that the light comes on when there is still plenty left in the tank, how can you just disable the sensor altogether? Is there a way I could maybe zip tie that little float in the top position, or possible unhook it? That light and chime just annoy the hell out of me...
