Question Hard Starting PSD

Hello there everyone. Ive got a 96 F-350 with a 7.3L. For about a week now the engine has been getting harder and harder to start. Itll crank for about 5 or 6 seconds before turning over. What is up with it? Can bad glowplugs cause this hard starting issue? The good thing is that it has always started even though it takes a long time so I havent got stranded.

Thanks for the help

My 96 350 is doing the same thing, I changed the glow plug relay last week with no improvement so I guess I'll have to just plug the block heater in for now and get the valve pan covers off this fall and replace the glow plugs. I have been reading simular posts and it sounds like a fairly easy project. Won't need them in a few weeks, spring is around the corner I hope!

Sounds like you need glow plugs. They can be check really easy if you have a multi-meter. Each valve cover has a harness gasket with two connectors. Unplug them and check the two outer most pins in the valve cover end of the connector.(5 total) Check for ohms(continuity) and they should be about 2 ohms. If their is a open circuit then the plug is bad. If you have bad plugs I would recommend changing them asap. I've heard many horror stories about leaving bad ones in, they get carbon built up on them and get stuck in the head. Not good.
