I'm looking to replace my voltage regulator (long story). Taking a look at my setup now I have a motorcraft alternator (assuming stock) and the voltage regulator is screwed onto the back, the part number is E73F-10316-AB. Does anyone know/recommend a specific part to replace it with? Should I get one from o'reillys or call up the dealership? Also, what will the removal/install proceedure be? I'd like to get this done in the next day or two but only have a few hours at a time and need transportation (my life is a balancing act).
Well, even though I thought I fried it at first, I did get the new one in properly. Chilton does have a writeup on it, but it sucks. When you uninstall the old regulator, the brush assembly inside the alternator springs back into a mess you have to really stare at to figure out... to install the new one, you have to stick a small rod or allen wrench through the regulator, through the top of the holder, in front of the brushes (actually appear to be ceramic plates) to hold them in place... THEN you can screw the new regulator into place...
Anywho, I'm going to give it a few days, but things seem far more stable now... and durring my test-drive I was unable to recreate my spastic idle problem... but like I said, I'm going to give it a few days before I start jumping up and down like a schoolgirl.
