I am wondering of those of you who have had there truck bought back what the terms were - ie mileage charges and at what rate I am supposed to be getting a letter from Ford this week stating the diff in MSRP from my 04 to a 05 and mileage charge - what can they charge is there a cap? or can they also make you pay for depreciation ie - 10% of the MSRP. According to my state lemon law it is 10% of the value or 10 cents a mile...not sure I just dont want to be surprised
The mileage charge should be AT MOST the mileage rate up until the FIRST reported incident...
IE if you have 100K mile now,
but reported the issue @ 1000 miles...
they can only charge u for 1000 miles of use...
HOWEVER, just like when you bought the truck, this is a negotiation process.... I had all my mileage charges and $2500 of my MSRP difference waived when i went from an 02 4x2 7.3 to a 03 4x4 6-oh limited....
If I recall it is state dependent...
mine was in the 25K miles of use and about $2500 as well ?!?!?!
but that was two years ago and I have trouble remembering last week
I just kept harping on them that I didn't create this issue, "they" did ! I would not have traded my truck in if not for the failures of the tranny, etc...
but again, that was two years ago and they may have taken a hard line on it since....
in negotiations you always see what they will offer before u tell them what u will "settle" for...
I kept asking them "What would YOU do if this were your family in this truck?" and held out a little bit more without being pushed intoa corner... always said I WOULD do a lemon law and knew they would rather NOT have it go that far...
lemon laws are public record...
replacements and buybacks CAN be easier on the mfg...
When my truck was replaced in late 03 the mileage was based on the miles when the first malfunction occurred. I drove the truck until the replacement arrived 4 months later (almost 10K additional miles).
The replacement was ordered based on the same model of truck (F350 dually supercab) with the same options. If I didn't want one of the options on the 04 that the 03 had I could delete and add what I wanted, keeping in mind I could not exceed the invoice price of the 03 or I would have to pay for it. The base price of the 03 differed from the base price of the 04. Ford absorbed this cost. They also had to absorb any cost of the options that may have increased from the 03 to the 04.
This process followed the Lemon Law for the state of Washington.
intresting....i am in the lemon law process and ford contacted me.. the funny thing is they want $7128.41 for the buy back, its a 2004 ex 6.0. i have about 17.5k miles on it and they say that they charge me 42$ per mile, and they also said its about how many miles are on the truck, not on the first date in service. but on arbritation date i will see what will happen and i will report back its going to be on MARCH 9th.
6.0king Below is how Washington figures the offset for use. I think I was fortunate that the Ford rep agreed to use the miles at the first malfunction. I have all the paperwork when this went down. I was only charged for about 7.5K miles and the truck had over 17K on it when I took delivery of the replacement.
If you need anymore info from me just let me know.
The "offset for use" is computed by multiplying the number of miles directly attributable to use times the "purchase price" (in the instance of a lease, "purchase price" is the vehicle’s capitalized cost if disclosed in the lease or if not disclosed then the manufacturer’s suggested retail price) and dividing by 120,000 (Note: divide by 25,000 for a motorcycle).

You might look into your state's lemon laws...
Every one I've seen stops the ticker @ the first reported (documented) problem that caused the issue...
be it at 100 miles or 10k miles...
even if you drive it 30k more before the buyback/replacement...
because it's not YOUR fault that they took so long to figure out they couldn't fix it
in in floridas lemon law, and so far thats what ford wants to go buy, how many miles i have on it now...but we'll see as the arbritation date approcahes..
I had a RE-Acquired Vehicle with an '02 Lincoln Blackwood. They went sticker to sticker and charged me $.15 cents per mile to the first Repair Order mileage. I went from the Blackwood to a F-250 and had to have $1500.00 of dealer installed ford accessories added to break it even. They were prompt and very easy to work with. I have a friend that had a buy back with GM and they drug it out for 3 months and actually pulled his loaner the day they agreed to repurchase the Suburban, because he wouldn't take another GM vehicle. He went to my Ford dealer and they put him in his new Excursion for a month while he was waiting on the check from GM.
Thanks everyone this is helping me, I just hope I dont have to pay through the nose to get a new truck! I cannot afford it, All money goes to paying the dang pymt each month!!
The way thy figured my usage fee was by this formula, the selling price (in my case)
42,275.00 multiplied by 721miles the 3rd time in the shop for rear main seal. divided by 120,000= 254.00
Also don't forget that the DSB is just that, If you don't like the outcome you can go to the lemon law court. DSB and the lemon law are not the same.

OH !
I did forget....
ANY upgrades to your truck that you have receipts for WILL be reimbursed or moved to your new truck...
This included my $713 pre paid service policy...
They did a vin swap on the 100k ford warranty...
(which came out in my favor since I went from a cheaper 4x2 to a 4x4 which is more expensive to extend...)
