Will I Need 4.10?

I've been reading the boards and it seems that with little troubloe or problems, I'll be able to move to a 35" wheel/tire combo on a F350 6.0 CC 8' 4x4.

My question is...
Will 3.73's be too tall to move this tire combo?
Safer bet to get 4.10 LS?
I would be towing a fifth wheel camper.

Thoughts?

You would be all right to get the 3:73 ratio if you are only going to run 35's. However, if you do plan on towing allot with a 5th wheel I would recommend going with the 4:10's. As of right now I am running 38"s with the 3:73 ratio and have been doing so for about 40k miles. I can definitely tell that it’s struggling (especially with a trailer) so im putting in 4:56's on Sat.

Check this thread out. It's about my truck and my problems since going to 35s. The end result is that my truck is in the shop right now getting 4.30 gears installed. Should have it back today.

It was suggested that 4.56 gears would be best for frequent towing and 4.30 for moderate. I opted for the 4.30 since my trailer is only 8000# and I'll only tow it between 6 and 10 times per year. If you are buying new, get the bigger gear if you plan on putting 35s on there. And don't forget to get the truck recalibrated for both the tires and gears.

Also, in some RV boards that I've been to I noted that many guys driving Fords have 4.30s. That info also helped me make my decision to regear.

If you haven't bought it yet and are ordering it or shoping around for it get the 4.10's, if you already have the truck and it's got 3.73's leave it be, new gears installed are $1400+ thats a lot of money!

It made a noticeable difference. Without the TT the truck is much more powerfull with much better accelleration then with 3.73s.

I took the TT out for a weekend trip PRIOR to having the computer recalibrated for the gears. The hill climbs were better but still not where I'd like it to be. On the really long/steep grades I still had to drop into 2nd to keep the RPMs up around 3500+ and if I let up on the gas just a little then it really slowed to a crawl (30 to 35mp) which couldn't be corrected.

My mileage with 3.73s for mixed city/hwy was a tad over 10MPG. My mileage after is still 10MPG. I was told that I would get better mileage with the 4.30s but that wasn't true. Prior to the recalibration I got 7MPG on that hilly trip. I'm gonna take the TT on that same trip and see if the recalibration makes any difference in the hill climb or the mileage. My guess is that it won't.

I'm going to give my current setup a few trips but I may remove the lift and drop back down to 265/75/16s by summer's end.

SMILLER, I've got a F250 4x4 V10 with 4.10 non-limited slip. Would it cost approximately $1400 to go to 4.30 with limited slip? I'm also considering putting limited slip on my front differential as well. I ordered a Bronco in 1976 with factory posi or limited slip on front and back and I miss it.
