Question for you guys. Has anyone done a disc brake conversion to a solid axle truck?(like say, a '58 specifically) I remember seeing a spindle kit the used I think Granada rotors or something. Anyone heard of this? Thanx!
These sites have a lot of good general information on brakes.
I bought the ECI basic kit (EC-732), and bought the other parts locally, except for a combination valve from Classic Performance. It isn't on the truck yet, so I can't say how well it works.
I am not sure if my rims are stock, if they had split rims to start, mine are not stock. If stock is just run of the mill 15" one piece rims, the one's I have fit fine.
Thank'ee, olde son.
The '58 F-350 that my family owns has Stock 17.5's that are Not split rim & it has been Only upon a rare occasion that I've found split rims on our year trucks.
Cheers

I used classic performance for the kit on my truck. It looked like a good kit, but I had nothing but problems with things fitting wrong, or not at all. I had to go buy new seals, bearings, and banjo fittings because the ones they supplied didn't fit. I would like to think that it was just a case of someone throwing the wrong things in the box and it would be easily fixed, but when I contacted them it was always blamed on me incorrectly assembling things.
Amazingly, when I would go to the local parts store and buy parts for the year of the rotor or caliper the parts would fit. Like I said, maybe I just got an order that was filled by someone who didn't know which parts to grab, but it definately left a bad taste in my mouth about dealing with them.
I installed disc brakes on my 57. Got the kit from Classic Performance, and was not totally impressed with the instructions (misleading), but finally got them on and after tweeking a little seemed to be working ok. Donot use orginal rims. They will rub on the calipers. Most of the problems are solvable, just have to deal with them one at a time. Hope this helps a little. Roy
