I have a 2002 Explorer with the 4.0L and I have only had it for about three weeks and the chech engine light has come on three! times for the EGR? I have taken it back to the dealer twice now and I will be taking it back again in the morning. Does anyone have any idea what would cause this to happen over and over agin in such a short period of time?
I thought there was a known problem with some of the EGR differential pressure switches on the 4.0. I got a letter from FoMoCo regarding my 02 Ranger stating it would be replaced if it gave me problems, under warranty or not.
Yes I did but my wife just came home and stated that the check engine light came on while she was driving home from work. Thats the 5th time since I purchased the Explorer in Jan.!
I had the same issue on my 97 explorer with the 4.0L EFI O/H Valve engine. I first replaced the EGR valve and all was fine for acouple of weeks, then I had a CHECK ENGINE light again with a code for "EGR flow insufficient". It wa a constant thing, daily. I have since found I had a few spark plugs loose and my spark plug wire set was going bad too, then my coil pack. I replaced all those and have not had any issues yet. I was told to next change the EGR sensor as there had been known issues there.
